About LA Bamby

LA Bamby is the music persona of Bamby Salcedo, an internationally recognized transgender Latina activist, storyteller, and movement builder. Rooted in cumbia and shaped by her life between Guadalajara and Los Angeles, LA Bamby transforms culture, community, and resistance into music that invites people to dance, celebrate, and stand in their power.

For Bamby, music is another form of advocacy. It creates space for joy while honoring the people, traditions, and experiences that have shaped her. Her songs bring together Latin culture, unapologetic trans visibility, and the belief that art can move people emotionally, culturally, and politically.

“LA Cumbia del Movimiento” channels the strength of communities confronting injustice, including immigration raids and the militarization of Los Angeles. “LA Costurera” celebrates seamstresses, designers, and creative visionaries whose hands transform fabric into beauty, identity, and possibility. Together, these songs reflect LA Bamby’s artistic purpose: to honor community, preserve culture, and turn lived experience into something powerful.

Beyond the stage, Bamby Salcedo is the President and CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition and has dedicated more than three decades to advancing the rights and well-being of transgender, gender-expansive, and intersex people. As LA Bamby, she brings that same courage and authenticity to music, creating art grounded in resilience, liberation, remembrance, and joy.
